Comments

El Escorial de la Sierra issued local emergency currency during the Spanish Civil War, part of the broader collapse of small-denomination coinage that forced hundreds of municipalities to print their own provisional notes from 1936 onward. This 2003 replica was produced by the Real Casa de la Moneda — the Spanish national mint and security printer — making it an unusually authoritative reproduction, struck on watermarked paper by the same institution responsible for Spain's official currency.

The watermark is the detail worth noting: few commemorative replicas bother with genuine security substrate.
