Cervià de les Garrigues is a small municipality in the Les Garrigues comarca of Lleida, and like hundreds of Catalan towns it issued its own emergency small change during the Civil War after metallic coin effectively vanished from circulation in 1936. These municipal fractional notes — often printed on whatever card stock was locally available — were produced under a decree from the Generalitat de Catalunya authorizing ayuntamientos to cover the chronic shortage of low-denomination currency.
Turró catalogues this as #814. The thick card format was common among the smaller Lleida municipalities, where access to proper banknote paper was limited.
