Castellví de la Marca is a small municipality in Alt Penedès, and like hundreds of Catalan towns during the Civil War, it issued its own fractional paper currency after the Republican government's Decree of 25 May 1937 authorized local authorities to print emergency small change — metallic coinage had effectively vanished from circulation, hoarded or melted. The Turró reference places this firmly within that documented wave of municipal emissions, most of which were printed in tiny quantities on whatever paper stock was locally available.
Three co-signatories — alcalde, secretary-comptroller, and treasurer — was the minimum required configuration for these notes to carry legal standing under the decree's provisions. The municipal stamp substitutes for any more sophisticated security.
