Castellvell del Camp is a small municipality in the Baix Camp comarca of Tarragona, and like hundreds of Catalan towns during the Civil War, it issued its own fractional currency in 1937 after Republican-zone coin shortages made small change functionally extinct. The Generalitat de Catalunya had authorized local emergency emissions, but standardization was loose — each ajuntament essentially improvised, which is why output from villages this size was typically limited to a few hundred or few thousand pieces.

Turró's documentation of this emission is thin, and surviving examples are correspondingly rare.
