Castellfollit de la Roca is a Garrotxa village of roughly a thousand inhabitants perched on a basalt cliff — an unlikely seat of monetary authority under any circumstances. During the Spanish Civil War, the collapse of small-denomination coinage across Republican-held Catalonia forced hundreds of municipalities, however small, to print their own emergency paper. This note is one of those stop-gap instruments, produced at the Barnés press in Palamós rather than locally, as the town had no printing infrastructure of its own.
Turró catalogues this as #724, placing it within the vast body of Catalan municipal emissions of 1937. The series is well-documented but individual surviving examples vary considerably in condition, as most saw hard local use before the Nationalist advance rendered them worthless.
