Candasnos is a small village in the province of Huesca, Aragon, and like hundreds of Spanish municipalities during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency scrip when coins vanished from circulation after 1936. The "Colectividad Libre" designation marks this as an anarcho-collectivist commune — Aragon's collectivization movement, largely organized under CNT-FAI influence, produced some of the most ideologically distinct local currencies of the entire conflict.
These village-issued céntimos notes were printed in tiny quantities, often on whatever stock was available locally, and redeemed — or simply abandoned — when the collectives were forcibly dissolved by Republican central authorities in 1937. Survival rates are low precisely because no formal redemption infrastructure existed.
