Calzada de Calatrava is a small municipality in the province of Ciudad Real, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, it issued its own fractional emergency currency when the Republic's central supply of small change collapsed entirely. These locally printed pieces — known collectively as billetes de necesidad or moneda local — were legal only within the issuing municipality and became worthless the moment you crossed into the next town.

The Gari catalog remains the primary reference for this notaphilic minefield, and the "-B" suffix here indicates a variant within the type — likely a printing or paper difference from the base issue.
