50 Céntimos Cabra del Camp

Cabra del Camp is a small municipalitat in the Alt Camp comarca of Tarragona, with a population that barely reached a thousand during the Civil War years. Like dozens of similarly sized Catalan towns, it issued its own emergency fractional currency in 1937 after the hoarding of metallic coin created a near-total breakdown in small-change commerce across the Republican zone. The Consell Municipal — effectively the local administrative authority under the wartime anarcho-syndicalist and Republican coalition — authorized these notes as a purely local stopgap.

Imprenta Solé in Tarragona handled production for a number of these small municipal issues from the surrounding comarca, which gives the series a recognizable regional consistency in paper stock and typographic execution. Turró catalogs this as #553.
