Cabezarrubias del Puerto is a small municipality in the province of Ciudad Real, Castilla-La Mancha. Like hundreds of similarly sized Spanish towns, it issued its own emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after the Republic's decree of 1936 effectively sanctioned local money production to address the near-total disappearance of metallic coin from circulation. These municipal emissions were produced under wildly inconsistent conditions — some typeset, some handstamped, some little more than handwritten slips — and most circulated within a radius of a few kilometers before the war's end rendered them worthless.
