Opmerkingen

Bossòst is a tiny Pyrenean municipality in the Val d'Aran — Occitan-speaking, geographically isolated, and administratively peculiar even within Catalonia. During the Civil War, the Republican government's decree of May 1937 authorizing local emergency currency gave hundreds of Catalan municipalities the legal cover to issue their own notes, and Bossòst was among the smallest to actually do so. Arts Gràfiques Ilerda in Lleida printed for dozens of these municipal issuers simultaneously, which explains the family resemblance shared across many Val d'Aran pieces from the period.

The Val d'Aran changed hands in the chaotic summer of 1936 before stabilizing under Republican control — these notes circulated in a community of well under a thousand inhabitants.
