Blancafort is a small inland municipality in the Camp de Tarragona, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish towns during the Civil War, it issued its own fractional currency after the Republican government's chronic shortage of small-denomination coinage made everyday commerce nearly impossible. These local emergency issues — collectibles call them "guerra civil locals" — were authorized under a series of Republican decrees from 1936 onward that effectively permitted municipal councils to print their own money. Imprenta Mestres in nearby Montblanc produced notes for several surrounding municipalities, which accounts for the family resemblance across Turró's Camp de Tarragona entries.
Survival rates for these hyper-local issues vary sharply. Blancafort's wartime population was under a thousand, so total print runs were almost certainly small.
