Bañeres — now officially Banyeres de Mariola — was a small industrial town in the Alicante interior whose municipal council, like hundreds of others across Republican Spain, was forced to print its own fractional currency after the Civil War's disruption of normal coin supply caused a near-total disappearance of small change from circulation. These local emergency emissions, generically called "moneda local" or "papel moneda municipal," were authorised under Republican decree but executed entirely at the municipal level, with wildly inconsistent results in paper stock and print quality.

The Gari Mon#228-B designation indicates a distinct variety within the Bañeres emission — likely a colour or typographic variant from the primary listing.
