Arbúcies is a small Garrotxa-adjacent municipality in the Selva comarca of Catalonia, and like hundreds of similarly sized towns it resorted to issuing its own fractional currency during 1936–37 when the Republic's small-denomination coinage effectively vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply absent. The Consell de la Generalitat had authorized local emergency emissions, but coordination was loose and the results were wildly uneven in quality and design.
Turró catalogues this emission under a single reference, suggesting Arbúcies produced a limited and relatively uncomplicated series. Josep Pol signed as alcalde — a civilian role that carried considerable administrative weight during the anarchist and UGT-CNT committee period in many Selva towns.
