Altorricón is a small agricultural village in the Huesca province of Aragon, and like hundreds of similarly sized Republican municipalities during the Civil War, its local council issued emergency fractional currency after the hoarding and disappearance of metallic coin left the local economy without small change. These municipally printed notes — known collectively as moneda local de guerra — were produced under wildly varying conditions, often on whatever paper and printing equipment the town possessed.
Gari's catalog documents over a thousand such issues from across Republican Spain; Altorricón's entry is among the more obscure, with surviving examples genuinely scarce due to the village's small population and correspondingly limited original print run.
