Reverse description The Spanish royal coat of arms, surmounted by an open royal crown, occupies the central field. The quartered shield displays the traditional castles and lions of Castile and León, with the dynastic roundel at its center. The Pillars of Hercules, each wound with a scroll bearing the motto PLUS ULTRA, flank the shield on either side. The peripheral legend REY CONST. DE ESPAÑA arcs around the upper field with mint mark initials P.C. and assayer mark V flanking the legend. The denomination 50 CENT. is prominently inscribed in the lower exergue.
