Ababuj is a village in the Sierra de Gúdar, Teruel province — a municipality so small it recorded fewer than 300 inhabitants in the 1930s. During the Civil War, Republican-controlled municipalities across Aragon issued their own fractional emergency paper when coins disappeared from circulation almost entirely, hoarded or melted down. Ababuj did the same, and the result is among the most obscure municipal issues in the Gari catalogue.

The stamp authentication was the standard safeguard against forgery in these local issues — the municipal seal applied by hand before release. Without it, the note was invalid.
