| Obverse description | Left-facing laureate bust of Marianne, the allegorical personification of the French Republic, her hair adorned with an elaborate wreath of olive branches and leaves extending prominently behind her head. The engraver's signature A.PATEY appears in small letters beneath the truncation of the neck. The circular legend RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE arcs around the periphery, with RÉPUBLIQUE to the left and FRANÇAISE to the right, separated by a finely beaded border. The date appears in the lower field below the bust. The portrait is rendered in a refined classical style characteristic of Patey's medallic work. |
