Obverse description Bare-headed right-facing effigy of King Léopold II with a prominent full beard, rendered in high relief in the naturalistic academic style characteristic of Thomas Vinçotte. The king is depicted with aged, distinguished features and no drapery visible at the truncation. The circular legend reads 'LEOPOLD II ROI DES BELGES' arranged around the periphery of the field, with the legend divided across the upper left and upper right portions of the coin.
