Belgium's 1906 coinage patterns were struck in the lead-up to a broader monetary reform debate, with separate Dutch- and French-text versions produced to satisfy the country's entrenched linguistic division — a constitutional reality that forced the mint to duplicate virtually every official issue. This gold pattern was never adopted for circulation; the 50 centimes denomination remained a silver and then cupro-nickel coin throughout Léopold II's reign.
