| Obverse description | The note is framed by a fine guilloche border with ornamental corner rosettes. The issuer's title and ministerial authorization date appear at the top in letterpress, above the large-format denomination text CINQUANTE CENTIMES. At centre, a circular official seal of the Chambre de Commerce de Montluçon-Gannat is flanked on either side by two interlaced monogram vignettes; below these, the manuscript signatures of the Trésorier and the Président appear with their respective titles, alongside the series designation SÉRIE A at lower left and the serial number at lower right. A violet oval validation stamp of the Chambre de Commerce is applied to the left margin. |

The Chambres de Commerce emergency notes of 1914 were a direct response to the monetary panic that followed France's declaration of war in August — banks suspended payments, coin vanished into hoarding almost overnight, and local chambers stepped into the vacuum with hastily authorized small-denomination paper. Montluçon-Gannat's issue was printed locally by Herbin & Bouché, which kept production fast but meant security was minimal: an official stamp was the only meaningful obstacle to counterfeiting.
JP#84.1 is the first reference in the Montluçon-Gannat sequence, placing it among the earliest wartime emergency fractional issues in the Allier département.
