At the top centre, the municipal coat of arms of Angoulême is set within a decorative cartouche flanked by the motto FORTITUDO MEA and CIVIUM FIDES, with circular série medallions at each upper corner. The denomination 50 CENTIMES is printed in large bold type across the centre, above the manuscript signatures of the Trésorier and the Président, with the emission date and serial number printed at the foot. |

Angoulême's chamber of commerce began issuing small-denomination emergency notes in 1915 as the war drained the country of metallic coinage — a problem severe enough that hundreds of French chambers of commerce were granted the same stopgap authority that year. The Keller Frères printing house was a local firm, which kept production entirely within the Charente department rather than routing through Paris.
