Comments

The Chambres de Commerce across French Algeria issued their own emergency fractional notes during and after World War One, filling a gap left by the chronic shortage of small coin. Oran's chamber was among the most active, producing several denominations through the early 1920s as the coin shortage dragged on far longer than anyone had anticipated.

These local chamber notes had no status beyond their issuing region — legally valid in Oran, worthless elsewhere in Algeria without arrangement.
