| Opmerkingen |
The Trésor Colonial de la Guadeloupe's 50 Centimes note of 1884 was issued under the French colonial treasury system that handled small-denomination fiduciary needs in overseas territories — the Banque de la Guadeloupe, chartered in 1853, covered larger denominations, leaving the colonial treasury to fill the gap at the fractional level. Notes of this type circulated among a population where coin shortages were chronic, a persistent condition in French Caribbean territories throughout the nineteenth century.
As P#1, this is the first catalogued issue for Guadeloupe. Survival rates for small-denomination colonial treasury paper of this period are extremely low.
