By 1971, Chile's monetary system was already buckling under inflationary pressure that would accelerate dramatically through Allende's presidency. This denomination was effectively obsolete within a few years — the escudo's collapse rendered small fractional coinage worthless in practical exchange before the 1975 peso reform swept the entire series away.
