Obverse lettering	el Banco de la República Oriental del URUGUAY pagará al portador y á la vista la cantidad de CINCUENTA CENTÉSIMOS en moneda legal de oro ó plata sellada LEY DE 4 DE AGOSTO DE 1896 Montevideo, 24 de Agosto de 1896 (Translation: The Bank of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay will pay to the bearer and at sight the amount of Fifty Cents on legal currency of sealed gold or silver Law of August 4th., 1896 Montevideo, August 24th., 1896)
Reverse description	The national coat of arms of Uruguay is centred on the reverse, flanked on each side by the bank title arranged vertically, with the face value given in both numerals and words running along the side borders in a layout rotated 90 degrees relative to the obverse. Fine guilloche geometric lathe-work fills the background, and the denomination '50' appears in corner counters.
