Obverse description The obverse features the papal coat of arms of Pope Pius XII, centrally displayed within an ornate cartouche surmounted by the papal tiara and flanked by the crossed Keys of Saint Peter. The shield bears a dove with an olive branch over a wavy base, rendered in fine relief. Decorative baroque scrollwork flanks the central arms on either side. The circumferential Latin legend reads PIVS XII PONTIFEX MAXIMVS A II, with the date 1940 positioned in the lower field.
