Obverse description The national coat of arms of Honduras occupies the central field, depicting an oval shield bearing a landscape with mountains, trees, and a sun rising over a body of water, surmounted by a Comayagua-style oval cartouche inscribed with the national motto, and flanked by two cornucopias and a quiver of arrows. Above the shield rises a volcan with rays and a castle tower, while below crossed cannons and a silver mine cart appear in the base. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE HONDURAS arcs along the upper periphery, with the secondary legend LIBRE, SOBERANA E INDEPENDIENTE 15 DE SEPTIEMBRE DE 1821 encircling the shield itself. The date of issue appears in the lower field below the arms. The coin's rim is defined by a continuous border of fine beading.

Reverse description The reverse features a left-facing profile portrait of Lempira, the celebrated Lenca chieftain and national hero of Honduras, contained within a raised inner circle. Lempira is depicted wearing a decorative headband adorned with square geometric motifs and with his hair worn long and flowing to the rear, rendered in fine detail. The denomination legend 50 CENTAVOS DE LEMPIRA arcs around the upper and lateral periphery in bold raised letters, with '50' positioned at the lower left. The field within the inner circle is plain, focusing attention on the dignified portrait. The rim is edged with a uniform border of fine beads.
