50 Centavos Fuertes Banco Nacional del Paraguay

The Banco Nacional del Paraguay was established in 1880 as the country's first formal bank of issue, created to rebuild financial infrastructure after the catastrophic losses of the War of the Triple Alliance — a conflict that had killed a substantial portion of Paraguay's male population and left the treasury in ruins. This 50 Centavos Fuertes note belongs to the 1886 series, the bank's earliest printed currency, produced by the American Bank Note Company at a time when Asunción had no domestic printing capability remotely adequate for security documents.

The "Fuertes" designation distinguished these notes from the heavily depreciated pesos of the war period.
