| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central device depicts the Nicaraguan coat of arms: an equilateral triangle enclosing five volcanic peaks rising above a body of water, surmounted by a radiant sun and a Phrygian cap, all rendered in low relief. A circular legend reading REPUBLICA DE NICARAGUA is positioned along the upper periphery, while AMERICA CENTRAL curves along the lower periphery, both separated by small ornamental stops. The overall design is executed in a simplified, bold style suited to circulation coinage. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Nicaragua's shift to chromium-plated steel coinage in the early 1990s was a direct response to the economic wreckage left by the Contra war years and the hyperinflation that had forced a currency redenomination in 1988 — when the new córdoba replaced the old at a rate of 1,000 to 1. Cheap base-metal planchets were the practical answer to a mint budget that simply couldn't support anything more.
