Obverse description The Brazilian national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a five-pointed star enclosing a circle within which the Southern Cross constellation is displayed. The central device is encircled by a ring of 27 small stars representing the states of the federation, flanked on either side by branches of tobacco and coffee — the nation's principal agricultural emblems. The circular legend REPÚBLICA DOS ESTADOS UNIDOS DO BRASIL runs along the periphery in Latin script.
