| Opmerkingen |
The Free Samar Currency Board was one of several guerrilla currency authorities that emerged across the Philippine islands after the Japanese occupation began in 1942. These local boards operated under varying degrees of official sanction from the Commonwealth government-in-exile, issuing notes to keep commerce functioning in areas outside Japanese control — or to at least deny the occupiers a monetary monopoly.
Samar's guerrilla currency is among the less documented of the Philippine resistance issues. P#S1105 sits in a catalog series where provenance and surviving quantities are poorly recorded, and distinguishing genuine wartime circulation pieces from later reproductions requires careful paper and ink analysis.
