The Misamis Occidental Currency Committee was one of several provincial emergency issuing bodies established across the Philippines in 1942 after Japanese forces severed normal banking operations and Commonwealth currency became nearly impossible to obtain in sufficient quantities. These committees operated under varying degrees of official sanction from the Philippine Commonwealth government-in-exile and guerrilla command structures, producing notes with whatever printing resources remained locally available.
The three signatures — Pacana, Molasco, and Barbasa — reflect the committee structure typical of these provincial bodies, where civilian administrators and local officials shared signing authority partly to distribute accountability, partly to guard against forgery by requiring multiple known hands.
Paper quality and ink consistency vary considerably across surviving Misamis Occidental issues, as wartime supply constraints forced improvisation throughout production.
