| Obverse description | Left-facing effigy of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, after the design by French engraver Eugène-André Oudiné. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detailing of the hair, known in two distinct varieties: smooth hair (CJ#173.1) and curled hair (CJ#173.2). The legend REPUBLICA ARGENTINA arcs along the upper periphery, flanked by small ornamental stars, with the date appearing in the lower field. A beaded border frames the entire design. |

Argentina's nickel coinage was suspended during World War II as the metal was redirected toward Allied war production — despite Argentina's official neutrality, export pressure from the United States was considerable. This 1941 issue falls in the final window before that suspension took effect, after which the series shifted to cheaper alloys.
