Obverse description Central design features the Bolivian coat of arms set within a beaded oval frame. The escutcheon depicts the rising sun above two mountains — Cerro Rico and Cerro Menor of Potosí — with a chapel at their base, flanked by a palm tree to the left and a sheaf of wheat to the right, with a llama in the foreground. Nine stars arc below the oval, representing Bolivia's nine departments. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE BOLIVIA surrounds the composition.
