Obverse description Allegorical effigy of Liberty facing left, her hair elaborately dressed and adorned with a laurel wreath, with flowing locks descending to the shoulder. The legend REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA arcs along the upper periphery, framed by a continuous inner beaded border. The date 1929 appears in the lower field beneath the portrait. The overall style is consistent with the standard Portuguese Republican Liberty type used across colonial coinage of the period.

Reverse description The Portuguese armillary sphere, symbol of the Age of Discovery, occupies the center of the field, with the Portuguese republican shield superimposed upon it. The denomination numeral 50 is prominently displayed in large figures below the globe, with the word CENTAVOS inscribed beneath in a smaller legend. The colonial territory name S.TOMÉ E PRINCIPE arcs around the upper periphery, separated by small ornamental stops, all within a beaded border.
