Angola's 1927–1928 coinage was issued under Portuguese colonial administration at a moment when the escudo system was being extended and standardized across overseas territories following postwar monetary reorganization in Lisbon. The nickel-brass alloy chosen here was a deliberate cost-reduction measure, reflecting Portugal's own fiscal difficulties through the mid-1920s — the metropolitan government had barely stabilized its own currency after years of inflation and republican political chaos.
KM#69 had a short two-year production window before the type was succeeded, leaving relatively modest surviving quantities across both dates.
