Mendoza's 1914 emergency fractional issues came out of a genuine currency shortage that afflicted Argentina's interior provinces when small-denomination coin all but vanished from circulation during the economic disruptions of the early war years. The provincial government stepped in where the Banco de la Nación simply couldn't — or wouldn't — provide adequate fiduciary coverage at the centavo level.
Kraft's Buenos Aires lithographic operation produced several of these provincial emergency series simultaneously, which occasionally causes attribution confusion between issues. PS2083 is the 50 Centavos denomination within Mendoza's short-lived scrip run, redeemable against provincial treasury funds that were, at the time, far from guaranteed.
