Obverse description Predominantly purple on light green underprint. The Argentine national coat of arms, within a laurel wreath vignette, is centred at the top. The denomination '50' appears in large numerals in each upper corner, with the text 'CENTAVOS' beneath. The central legend reads 'LETRA DE TESORERÍA / Cincuenta Centavos' in bold letterpress, with the issuing authority 'LA PROVINCIA DE MENDOZA' and the clause 'RECONOCE AL PORTADOR' flanking the central panel. Serial number and series letter appear below the coat of arms, with two manuscript signatures at the base identifying the Ministro de Hacienda and the Presidente del Crédito Público, above a red circular fiscal stamp.

Mendoza's 1914 emergency fractional issues came out of a genuine currency shortage that afflicted Argentina's interior provinces when small-denomination coin all but vanished from circulation during the economic disruptions of the early war years. The provincial government stepped in where the Banco de la Nación simply couldn't — or wouldn't — provide adequate fiduciary coverage at the centavo level.

Kraft's Buenos Aires lithographic operation produced several of these provincial emergency series simultaneously, which occasionally causes attribution confusion between issues. PS2083 is the 50 Centavos denomination within Mendoza's short-lived scrip run, redeemable against provincial treasury funds that were, at the time, far from guaranteed.
