Obverse description Central device features a pair of traditional Ghanaian fontomfrom drums arranged symmetrically in the field, their bodies crossing at the base in a decorative composition. The drums are rendered in high relief with fine detailing of the drum skins and carved wooden bodies. The legend GHANA arcs along the upper periphery, while FREEDOM AND JUSTICE curves along the lower periphery, all in bold Latin capital letters. The design reflects Ghana's national motto and cultural heritage through this emblematic musical instrument.

Reverse description Central design depicts four fishermen aboard a traditional wooden fishing boat, rendered in high relief against a stylised background of undulating wave patterns filling the field. One figure stands at the stern while three others are seated or crouching within the vessel, evoking the theme of artisanal fisheries. The circular legend FAO WORLD FISHERIES CONFERENCE 1983-84 runs along the upper periphery, and the denomination 50 CEDIS appears along the lower periphery, flanked by two small FAO emblem devices. The composition commemorates the FAO World Fisheries Conference held between 1983 and 1984.
