Obverse description A cast brass coin of substantial module bearing a central square perforation. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are disposed in cruciform arrangement around the central hole, reading clockwise from the top in the traditional top-bottom, right-left sequence: 咸豐重寶 (Xianfeng Zhongbao), proclaiming the reign title of the Xianfeng Emperor and classifying the piece as 'heavy currency.' The boldly modelled characters are rendered in well-defined raised relief against a plain, unadorned field, with no rim beading or border ornamentation. The overall execution reflects the standard Board of Revenue casting aesthetic of the early Xianfeng period.
