| Reverse description | The reverse displays the mint and denomination inscription arranged around the central square hole in a bilingual format. A single Chinese character (當) appears above the hole, and the denomination characters (五十, 'fifty') are cast below, flanking the lower rim of the aperture. To the left and right of the hole, the Manchu script reads 'Boo-chang' (ᠪᠣᠣ ᠴᠠᠩ), identifying the Board of Revenue Mint in Beijing. The characters and Manchu glyphs are rendered in strong relief consistent with the large-denomination Xianfeng-era cast coinage. |
