Obverse description Round cast bronze coin with a central square hole, bearing the four-character inscription 大泉五十 (Da Quan Wu Shi, meaning 'Large Coin, Fifty') arranged in cruciform fashion around the central perforation, reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left in the traditional Chinese manner. The characters are rendered in neat clerical script (lishu) and stand in moderate relief against a flat field. Inner and outer raised rims frame the inscription, defining the coin's obverse face. The surfaces display natural patination consistent with age, with verdigris present throughout.
