| Obverse description | Four Chinese ideograms in clerical script (lishu) are arranged in cruciform fashion around the central square hole, read in the traditional sequence: top, bottom, right, left. The characters 乾元重寶 (Qianyuan Zhongbao) are rendered in bold, well-defined relief. The obverse field is plain, and the coin is bounded by a raised inner rim encircling the square perforation and a raised outer rim defining the coin's edge. |
