Obverse description Bolivian national arms displayed at center, consisting of an oval cartouche bearing a landscape with Mount Illimani, an alpaca, a breadfruit tree, and a sheaf of wheat, surrounded by ten stars along the lower arc representing the ten departments of Bolivia. The arms are flanked by Bolivian flags and surmounted by the condor. The encircling legend reads REPUBLICA DE BOLIVIA, with the date 1998 positioned in the exergue below the shield.

Reverse description The municipal arms of La Paz displayed prominently above a detailed depiction of the Church of Laja, the colonial church near the original founding site of the city. The denomination Bs50 appears within a beaded circle, with the commemorative inscription arcing around the upper field. Two dates, 1548 and 1998, are separated in the lower portion of the design, marking the 450th anniversary of the foundation of the city.
