Additional information

Bolivia issued this coin to commemorate the founding of La Paz, originally established in 1548 by Alonso de Mendoza as Nuestra Señora de La Paz — a name chosen to mark the end of the civil wars between Spanish conquistadors following the execution of Gonzalo Pizarro. The city was positioned deliberately along the Inca road network, giving it logistical importance that outlasted the colonial period entirely.

The 50 Bolivianos denomination was reserved almost exclusively for commemorative silver issues during this decade, seeing no circulation whatsoever.
