Bolivia's 2016 banknote series was issued to mark the bicentennial of the country's independence movement — the 1809 Chuquisaca revolution is the nominal starting point, though actual independence wasn't achieved until 1825. The series leaned heavily on that commemorative framing, which influenced the imagery chosen across all denominations.
Oberthur Fiduciaire has printed Bolivian notes since at least the 1980s, making this a long-standing procurement relationship. The security specification here — watermark and thread only — is relatively modest for a mid-range denomination in the 2010s, though consistent with Bolivia's issued standards for this series.
