| Obverse description | An intaglio portrait of Emperor Haile Selassie I in military uniform is positioned at right, set against a multicolour guilloche underprint. The left and centre are occupied by an engraved vignette of the arch bridge over the Blue Nile. Denomination numerals '50' appear in each upper corner, with bilingual Amharic and English inscriptions across the upper portion, the issuer title 'STATE BANK OF ETHIOPIA' along the lower margin, and an ornate foliate engraved border framing the entire face. |
