| Additional information |
Neagoe Basarab ruled Wallachia from 1512 to 1521 and is remembered as much for his ecclesiastical patronage as for any military achievement — the Curtea de Argeș Monastery, rebuilt under his direct commission, remains one of the finest examples of Wallachian religious architecture. His *Învățăturile lui Neagoe Basarab către fiul său Teodosie*, a didactic text addressed to his son, is considered the earliest major work of original literature written in a Romanian principality.
