| 裏面の説明 | The reverse presents the large numeral '50' dominating the central field in a bold, modern typeface, occupying the upper two-thirds of the design. A fine horizontal double rule separates the denomination numeral from the currency unit inscription 'BANI', rendered in capitals in the lower portion of the field. The design is clean and unadorned, relying on strong typographic composition within a plain field bounded by a raised rim. |

The Romanian leu was redenominated on July 1, 2005, with one new leu equal to 10,000 old lei — one of the more dramatic currency resets in post-communist Eastern Europe. This 50 bani piece entered circulation as part of that relaunch, a monetary overhaul driven by Romania's preparation for EU accession, which came two years later in 2007.
The design choice to drop the royal crown from the eagle reflects the post-monarchist political settlement that has defined Romania since the forced abdication of King Michael I in 1947.
