Thailand's first polymer note, issued to mark the golden jubilee of Bhumibol Adulyadej's accession — the longest reign of any monarch at that point. Note Printing Australia had been producing polymer currency for the Reserve Bank of Australia since the late 1980s, and by the mid-1990s was actively courting central banks across Asia; Thailand was among the earliest adopters outside the Pacific region.
The transparent window, a defining feature of the Guardian substrate, was still a novelty to Thai traders and caused enough public confusion that the Bank of Thailand ran an authentication campaign shortly after release.
