Obverse description	Printed in purple and olive-green on a pale yellow-green ground, the obverse is framed by an elaborate guilloche border enclosing a central circular vignette of a steam vessel at sea, ringed by the bank's legend and the motto "COLONIAS COMMERCIO AGRICULTURA" over a fine lathe-work underprint of interlocking geometric rosettes. The bank title "BANCO NACIONAL ULTRAMARINO" occupies a dark panel at the top, with "50 AVOS" cartouches at each corner, while the territory name "TIMOR" and the date "19 de JULHO de 1940" are set in the lower field alongside two manuscript signature lines for the Administrator and the President of the Board of Directors. The printer's imprint "BRADBURY, WILKINSON & Co Ld GRAVADORES LONDRES" appears at the foot.
